41 years from the first scan of a product barcode

Today we celebrate 41 years of the first scan of the barcode product type UPC (Universal Product Code).

On June 26, 1974, with the test system of the NCR, Sharon Bachanan sells the world's first item by scanning the barcode - package with chewing gums.

The receipt from the sale and the chewing gum are exposed as exhibits in the Museum of the Research Institute Smithson.

Тhe scanning technology enters our lives to such an extent, that at the moment it is difficult to find a product without a barcode on its packaging.
